Macau Lawyers Association elections 2024

Proud to reflect on my journey with the Macau Lawyers Association - it began when I was 29 years old and I was invited by an esteemed colleague to stand election together for the Ethics Council. While procedurally we were focused on resolving complaints on time, got to understand that our mission extended far beyond, playing a vital part in maintaining public trust in the justice system - a judge is not tasked just to resolve specific cases, but also to ensure societal cohesion.

After serving two maximum terms, was honoured to be elected as Secretary of the General Assembly. In the first meeting we held, when I was about to cast my vote on the first resolution, my esteemed President of the GA suggested not to do so. It helped me later understand our actual role in this position: rather than taking stances, it was about giving people a fair hearing and fostering consensus among our members as well as cohesion within the community.

Glad to have supervised this latest smooth and collective election process.

It has been a true privilege to serve our members and the community at large during this time.

Thank you to all the people I had the pleasure of working with and to deserve their trust during this time (basically all my colleagues!), particularly Dr. Neto Valente, Dr. Frederico Rato, Dr. Paulino Comandante, Dr. Leonel Alves, Dr. Vong Hin Fai, Dr. Manuel Leong. Also, big thanks to our always supportive secretariat (some like Selina who saw me going from trainee to this day).
