Shanghai United Media Group

Had a fantastic time visiting the state #media Shanghai United Media Group (SUMG). It was like stepping into a sci-fi movie where two newspapers from 2016 from another decade merged to become a dynamic online media powerhouse! Talk about a glow-up - I wasn’t around, but I guess similar to when the media went from black-and-white to this thing called colours?

SUMG has really embraced the #digital age, launching news websites and mobile apps to connect with a broader audience. They’ve diversified their content like a buffet - everything from multimedia formats to video dance challenges - okay, maybe not that last one… yet, just check out their Integrated Media Studio Empowerment Plans..

By teaming up with tech giants like ByteDance and Tencent, SUMG is basically saying, “Why not add a little tech magic to our storytelling?” The facilities are buzzing with energy - especially the cafeteria on the top floor, which has the kind of vibe that screams “come for lunch, stay for life!”

They’re all about  over quantity, which is refreshing. I mean, who wants a million mediocre cat videos when you can have original content that tells the “uncommon stories of common people”! Seriously, check out Sixth Tone if you want to dive into the “nuances and complexities of today’s #China”.

Credits to Prof. Song from Fudan University for organising this.
